Phonological Awareness ~ Transportation

Almost three weeks ago my colleagues and I presented at the 3rd Annual Texas School Ready! Early Childhood Summer Institute in San Antonio, TX. Our presentation, "PA All Day: The Fun and Fabulous Way!", focused around the theme of Transportation. We had a wonderful time sharing our ideas and it was exciting for me to see other educators admiring the learning games that I had created. We got some tremendous feedback, so I'm hoping that our audience enjoyed it and were able to take some things away to implement in their classrooms.

A little confused on the difference between phonological awareness and phonics? Just remember that phonological awareness has to do with sounds, while phonics deals with print.

Check out these samples from my
Transportation Mega Pack:

Rhyming Cones

Have the children pick a toy car. While having the children close their eyes, hide a car under one of the cones. Each cone is labeled with a form of transportation graphic. Have the child name a word that rhymes with the picture on that cone in order to see if their car is underneath.

Same Sound Stop & Go
The children each have a stop sign/go sign craft stick. The teacher shows two pictures or says two words. The children hold up the stop sign if the words do not begin with the same sound or the go sign if the words do begin with the same sound.

Traffic Light Words
The child draws a card and says the word out loud. The child pushes one light for each sound in the word.

 Racecar Blends
The child pushes a toy car across sections of a road as they say each phoneme in the word.

This is just a sampling of what I have prepared. If you like what you've seen here, please visit my Teachers Pay Teachers store at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Pre-kiddles to check out my PA Transportation Mega Pack.
